Current Morning Skincare Routine

If you’re into your skincare but have never fully committed to a dedicated routine like me, then listen up!

I am lucky enough to have never had any major issues with my skin. I was prescribed a few creams during slightly spottier periods of my life, but never anything major. I do believe that good skin boils down to a healthy diet, staying hydrated and a simple skincare routine.

I’ve dabbled in expensive products and messed around with retinols, but for me it is a result of all 3 factors mentioned above. However, I’m by no means a skincare expert nor do I have the most perfect skin, but I can tell you which products work for me and helped clear up my skin during this lockdown.

Before now I had a vague routine and a few set products which I’d use but I wasn’t as strict as I have become now. I am finally starting to see the benefits and trust the process. So if like me, you don’t struggle with any major skin issues but get the odd pesky spot here and there, believe me when I say it’s worth committing to a good routine; day and night!

First off, I should start by saying that my skin tends to be combination, breakout prone skin. I don’t struggle with any major dryness or oilyness and I get a few odd spots that all tend to come and go at once. Therefore I don’t use any particularly strong or harsh products as I don’t necessarily feel I need those in my routine!

So let’s start with my morning routine. The first product I use is my cleanser, I always lean towards a cream based product, something that is soothing and not too harsh. My all time favourite is the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish , I have used this product for years and have always got along with it, its not too expensive and a good everyday basic. I have however recently run out, and instead of immediately purchasing a new one I decided to try the Nspa Luminous Glow Hot Cloth Polish. I was given this back at Christmas as a gift and I have to say it has proven to be a very good dupe for the Liz Earle, and is extremely affordable! If you’re looking for something on the cheaper side but still a reliable product I recommend giving this cleanser a go!

Once my skin is cleansed I then go ahead and apply my face oil. This is a product which I came across by pure chance but am totally obsessed with! On one of my many TK Maxx sprees I came across this Rose Hip Oil. I had heard a few people recommend rose hip oil for scarring which is something I struggle with, so when I saw this I decided to pick it up and BOY am I glad I did! This product has been the absolute game changer for my skin. It’s kept it hydrated, helps create a glow under my makeup and has dramatically changed the texture and appearance of my skin. This is the first product I have tried with rose hip in and I believe this may be an American brand, but I am super keen to try some more products that contain rose hip oil. I know ByTerry and Fresh have some good products so please let me know if you have any recommendations!

So once I have spent some time working the oil into my skin, it’s time for SPF and moisturiser. Kiehls has always been a go to brand for me, their products have never irritated my skin and I have always found them extremely reliable. For SPF I use the Ultra Light Daily UV SPF 50 Facial Sunscreen, this sits really nicely under makeup and doesn’t leave any white residue which some SPF products can do. No matter whether I am spending the day indoors or going out into the sun I always ensure I wear SPF, either as a separate product or within a moisturiser as it’s hugely important to protect your skin from UV rays.

Now onto moisturiser. Again Kiehls is the brand I reach for most at the moment. I have tried Charlotte Tilburys Magic Cream, but I just can’t justify the price when I feel the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream  does just as good of a job.

Finally, a few juicy extras! This No7 Nourishing Hydration Mask has quickly become my favourite weekly treatment. It instantly reduces blemishes and leaves my skin glowing and hydrated. And lastly my latest addition is the Dr Jart + Tiger Grass Colour Correcting Treatment, this works as a perfect base for your makeup and final step in your skincare. I bought this after I saw Sarah Ashcroft recommend it in her latest makeup video, her skin is always so flawless so when she spoke so highly of it I had to purchase. Although I haven’t used this for long, I love the fact it has SPF 30 in but it also works beautifully on a no makeup day if you are just looking to even out your skin tone.

So there you have it, my current morning skincare routine. It’s nothing flashy or revolutionary but it’s works for me and sticking to a consistent routine has really helped keep the breakouts away!

Skincare Top Tips:

Always use a separate towel for your face, never use a generic bathroom towel that you also dry your hands with and use in the shower! Keep it separate.

– Don’t mix too many products, you’ll only end up confusing your skin and end up chucking all products away when really it may just be that you’re using too many at once.

– Don’t break the bank. You don’t need to spend a months wage on the latest product when sometimes the cheaper ones work best. Research what ingredients are in the product and if they will work with your skin type.
