New Year New Goals

I hate to be one of those ‘new year new me’ kind of people BUT… I do have some goals in mind which I am determined to achieve over the upcoming year.

The start of a new year is a great time to review your goals and assess what you achieved in the previous year and what you could do better. For me I think of a new year as a fresh start, a clean slate! Time to scrap those bad habits and set new achievable goals! Notice the word achievable.. this is something I often forget and my goals become a distant memory before I have even tried – so guess what my first goal is? Strive to achieve ALL goals this year!

Here is a list of goals I wish to achieve over the year:

  • Veganuary! Yes that’s right.. going Vegan throughout the month of January.

I’ve decided to try Veganuary as I don’t eat too far off this currently (apart from Christmas when you would have found me curled up on the sofa with a baguette and a baked Camembert!) – however having been Pescitarian for almost 2 years now and having previously given up all dairy for my vocal health the thought of cutting out fish and eggs for a month too isn’t so daunting.  Food posts to come!

  • Blog more!

Although this is only a hobby for me, it’s something I thoroughly enjoy and wish I allowed more time for. Too often I convince myself I don’t have the time to write or I don’t have good enough photographs, but 2018 will be the year this blog kicks off! With more exciting and engaging content I aim to grow this platform to a standard I am extremely proud of!

  • Get back into singing & playing the piano.

After I was told the funding for my vocal surgery was declined I had completely turned my back on my passion. I lost the love and became reckless with my voice again! This year I intend to do everything in my power to get back on track with my voice and gain the love back for singing and playing the piano. When I was due to return to drama school I was always practicing, studying and looking after my voice. Now my biggest regret was letting this slip and falling back into my old damaging habits. Whilst I am working full time it would be great for me to get into a band or do some gigs again to ease myself back into the performing world before moving onto the next stage of my life. Any tips for joining a band or doing solo gigs would be much appreciated! Mission get Martha singing again is GO GO GO!

  • Make more time for friends and family.

Too often we get sucked into the craziness of our day to day lives and forget to spend time with our loved ones. I am extremely guilty of this! I fall into a routine of work and will forget to make time for those that matter the most. My friends know too well that I will forget to reply to a text here and there and plans end up falling through. Making time to socialize and trick yourself out of daily routine is so important to your overall happiness. There is only so long people make an effort before they give up! So don’t waste time.. reply to that text now and always make time for those that care for you the most. No more empty promises!

  • Start running again.

Back in September 2016 I completed my first half marathon in just under 2 hours. I set myself a goal to get into running and was over the moon when I could say I completed the run without stopping and under my target time. After this I wanted a break from running and felt like it had become a chore as I had trained so hard I lost the joy and freedom of running. Looking back this is an achievement I am so so proud of. Although I definitely wouldn’t have completed it without my incredible mum who is a crazy marathon runner, I am so proud to say I did it. Before it hits 2 years since the last one I aim to complete another – so I better get running! If you have thought about getting into running but are too anxious I advise finding yourself a running partner and heading out for a few short social runs a week – no pressure, no target time – just go for a chat and a doddle, this is how I got into it. So this year I aim to get back into it and run 1-2 times a week with the intention of completing another half before the year is up.

So there you have it! My main goals for 2018, although there are many small goals I wish to reach, these are my main focus points for the year. I hope you have enjoyed this post and you are looking forward to the year ahead. Let me know of any goals you have set yourself and how you wish to achieve these? Here’s to a happy, healthy and successful year! Love, M x
